Top five SUVs for less than £250 per month

It’s a fact – we love SUVs. The number on UK roads increases 20% every year, so if you’re considering one as your next car you aren’t alone. With the popularity of our other price-busting listicles and the exploding interest in SUVs, we’ve combined the two to bring you five that can be leased for less than £250 a month.

Ranging from crossovers such as the Citroen C3 Aircross right up to the ultra-large, ultra-luxurious Bentley Bentayga, the SUV market is diverse. As a result, our choices do vary in style and size, but the five cars below offer a good cross-section of just what’s on offer for this kind of monthly payment…

Volkswagen T-Roc

Volkswagen has been upping its SUV game recently, and the latest string to its bow is the T-Roc. It’s one of the most recent cars to launch in the UK and has the contemporary looks and customisation options to prove it.

Admittedly this is a car thats more crossover than all-out SUV, but it’s still a little larger than cars like the Audi Q2, and has a 445-litre boot to prove it. However, if space is your number one priority the Tiguanwhich can also be leased for under £250 p/m – is the better bet. The T-Roc’s excellent engine line-up and Golf-like feel behind the wheel have left it with many admirers, including our very own Howard Ritchie.

Mazda CX-5

The Mazda CX-5 isn’t an automatic go-to choice for those in the market for a family SUV, and considering its attractive pricing it’s difficult to find a reason why. A recent refresh ensures it still exudes Japanese cool on the outside, but the CX-5’s party piece is the way it drives.

A sharp chassis makes it one of the more fun SUVs behind the wheel, no doubt inspired by the company’s sportier offerings like the MX-5. The facelift wasn’t just skin deep either; you can count a premium interior and increased cabin space among the list of recent improvements too.

Mercedes-Benz GLA

Didn’t think £250 could get you an SUV with a premium badge? The Mercedes-Benz GLA proves otherwise. Ok, in terms of cabin space this is no G-Class – it is based on the A-Class hatchback, after all.

In reverse however, that mean it gets the same interior – still one of the classiest in the segment. Faux-leather and smartphone connectivity options are standard across the range, and even the entry-level SE gets large 17in alloy wheels to match the chunky looks.

Skoda Kodiaq

5 (+2) things we learnt about the Skoda Kodiaq

If you care more about space than the badge, then the Skoda Kodiaq is without doubt the SUV for you. With seven seats and a boot that’s on par with the Discovery Sport, this is a truly practical beast of burden.

A close relative of the Volkswagen Tiguan, the Kodiaq’s interior is well-made and feels like it’ll take the strain as a family runaround in its stride. Despite looking gargantuan, it’s actually a breeze to drive and is not actually that much longer than an Octavia estate. On a price to space ratio, nothing much can beat it.

Nissan Qashqai

10 years of the Nissan Qashqai – from sketch to success

The Nissan Qashqai is a rather predictable choice, but it’s predictable for a reason: well-built, with tonnes of kit, it’s been a family favourite since the original launched back in 2008 and was arguably the car that really brought the crossover segment into the public eye.

For £250 per month you can expect to get a well-specified N-Connecta-trimmed model, which includes a 360-degree surround-view camera, parking sensors and satnav as standard. If you like the look of the Qashqai but need a bit more space, it’s worth noting the X-Trail is also available within our £250 per month budget too.
