Teaser pic hints at new classy look for 2018 Mercedes Sprinter
Mercedes has teased us with a sketch of its all-new Sprinter van ahead of a full reveal next year, and will join the upcoming X-Class pick-up as part of a new generation of Mercedes commercial vehicles.
Few details have been confirmed, but the sketch suggests that the all-new van will feature styling cues that until now haven’t really been seen on larger vans – angular headlights and alloy wheels give it a classy demeanour.
Like the X-Class pickup, Mercedes trademark star takes pride of place on the grille, and is much larger than the current Sprinter’s badging.
No interior drawings have been revealed, although expect things to take a step up inside too. New driver assist packages such as Active Cruise Control and Autonomous Braking are promised and, with a wifi hotspot, tracking and telematics info will improve planning and logistics for fleets.
The new Sprinter is expected to be available as a panel van, minibus and pick-up form – just like the current offering is. We’re unsure which engines will feature, although it’s likely they will be honed versions of the diesels Mercedes currently offer.
But Mercedes claims the new Sprinter will meet the demands of urban drivers, so hybrid and electric versions could well be in the works too. However, these will likely come after the launch model that is expected in the first half of 2018.
Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans Volker Mornhinweg said: “We want to offer the most suitable mobility solution for every sector and for every transport assignment. And that is precisely our focus with the upcoming Sprinter generation as an overall system solution.”
We’ll bring you more details as and when they are released but, if you can’t wait for the launch of the new Sprinter, we have thousands of deals on the class-leading current version here.
