Expected at next month’s Geneva Motor Show, the new C3 will be a direct rival to the Ford Fiesta, Volkswagen Polo and Skoda Fabia, although it will boast “shades of” B-segment crossovers such as the Renault Captur.
The Citroen source also confirmed that the split from premium brand DS would allow Citroen to embark on more mainstream projects without having to kowtow to a more luxurious image.
The source refused to reveal any more about the forthcoming C3 replacement, but it is thought that the car will share a platform with the existing DS 3 and C4 Cactus, both of which bridge the gap between superminis like the VW Polo and family hatchbacks like the Ford Focus and Volkswagen Golf.
PSA, which owns the Peugeot, Citroen and DS brands, has also announced that a new DS concept will debut at the Geneva show, previewing the six all-new models the brand is going to introduce before 2020.
