February 2009 will see the release of the Porsche Cayenne Diesel, equipped with a 3.0-litre V6 turbo diesel engine with 240 bhp (176 kW), supplied by Audi AG. The extraordinary news that Volkswagen briefly became the world’s most valuable may have been at least partially resolved by Volkswagen’s parent company Porsche. The BBC reported that the value of Volkswagen share rose by 348 per cent over Monday and Tuesday after it emerged that only 5 per cent of Volkswagen shares were available. Mitsubishi join Porsche in congestion charge criticism
Porsche’s ongoing battle with Ken Livingstone over the proposed congestion charge increase has found support from Mitsubishi. Lance Bradley of Mitsubishi believes that Livingstone’s plan “is not a well co-ordinated plan to heavily penalise one group of vehicles over those emitting one gram less”. Bradley does however concede that the new charge will force car manufacturers to place added importance on CO2 emissions when developing their cars. read more
Porsche push for majority stake in Volkswagen
Porsche recently held an extraordinary meeting at which its supervisory board gave the go-ahead for the company to increase its stake in Volkswagen to more than 50% which would give Porsche majority control. Regulatory authorities will conduct reviews, taking several months, before the path is clear for Porsche to increase their stake. Porsche to challenge congestion charge
Ken Livingstone’s plans to increase the London congestion charge to £25 a day for cars that consume a high level of fuel. This change has led to Porsche requesting a judicial review, claiming the charge to be disproportionate, aimed at removing the new congestion charge. Transport for London believes the new congestion charge will remove approximately 22,000 vehicles from the zone during October 2008 (when the charge comes into being).
