Work begins on Nissan March
Written By Paul Lucas Published On: Mar 14 2010 Production is under way for Nissan’s latest global compact vehicle – appropriately named, given the time of year, the Nissan March. The vehicle will be officially launched on March 26 as part of the Bangkok International Motor Show but work has already begun on the model in Thailand where it will be the first car to be offered for sale under the country’s “eco-car” programme.Under the terms of the Thai eco-car programme, established by the Ministry of Industry’s Board of Investment, vehicles must meet strict requirements in terms of fuel consumption and emissions, as well as passenger safety standards.According to Toshiyuki Shiga, the COO of Nissan Motor Company Ltd, it is very important to establish an eco-friendly vehicle in the Asian market.“With an increasing vehicle population in Thailand and valid concerns about higher pollution levels in cities across the country, we’re introducing a product that will have fewer CO2 emissions and less environmental impact,” he said. “Very importantly, too, producing and selling the eco-friendly Nissan March in Thailand, as well as exporting it to other countries in the Asian and Oceania markets, will create jobs and contribute to the country’s progressive auto industry development.”The Nissan March is built on the V-platform and is designed to convey agility and robustness. It is engineered for easy handling and sprightly performance and boasts class leading fuel efficiency. The 1.2litre three-cylinder engine develops 108Nm with emissions at 120g/km of CO2.
