vw-golf-gti-mk-vi_3Great news for fans of the legendary Golf GTI, Volkswagen has confirmed it is now taking orders with the first cars hitting UK roads on 22nd May.The iconic model is almost 36 years old with this sixth generation promising it be the most powerful, fastest and sharpest yet.With an advanced new 2.0-litre TSI engine, available as a 6-speed manual or DSG gearbox, the GTI is capable of hitting the 149mph mark and zips from 0-62mph in 6.9 seconds. The Engineers at VW haven’t just looked at the performance of the engine however as CO2 emissions have fallen to 170g/km (over the Mk V emissions of 189g/km) and fuel economy has risen to 38.7mpg.Drivers of the GTI can be assured of greater traction in all conditions thanks to a new XDS differential which kicks in when the inside wheel is not sufficiently loaded and applies braking pressure via the ESP.Aesthetically the GTI basically looks like a more aggressive version of the new ‘normal’ Mk VI Golf, with a new front bumper, deep honeycomb airdam and rear wing.vw-golf-gti-mk-vi_4Standard equipment on the new GTI include red and black tartan sports seats with red stitching and headrests featuring the ‘GTI’ logo, a flat-bottomed GTI multifunction steering wheel, red brake callipers, 17-inch ‘Monza’ alloy wheels and 2Zone electronic climate control.Let us know whether you are looking forward to driving the new GTI below.Read our road test of the new VW Golf Mk VI, click the link.
