Red Top recognises the lure of leasing
Written By Faye Sunderland Published On: Jan 05 2009 An article in The Mail on Sunday highlighted the benefits of car leasing over the weekend. Illustrating some of our advertisers such as CLVR, the article argues that as recession bites hard on car sales, car leasing will become ever-more attractive solution for motorists.Stefan Gryko, head of sales at leasing company CLVR in Chesham, Buckinghamshire, told the newspaper: "We have seen a gradual increase in personal leasing customers over the last couple of years. Once someone has got through the emotional issues around being the owner of a car, they become more open to a lease."Graeme Banister, head of Jamjar Cars, a Royal Bank of Scotland subsidiary that specialises in personal leasing said;"Leasing a vehicle makes perfect sense during the current economic conditions. Fixed monthly payments and protection from plummeting vehicle values and unforeseen maintenance costs provide huge reassurance."After three years and 85,000 miles, Robert Hartley is swapping his three-year-old Renault Grand Scenic for a newer version of the same model. He has opted to lease, paying £357.57 a month through Jamjar on a contract that allows him to drive up to 20,000 miles per year.Robert, 55, who lives in Camberley, Surrey, with his wife Gill, 50, estimates that he should save at least £2,000 over the three years of the lease compared with trading in his current car and taking out a personal loan to fund the difference. He says: "I was quite shocked by the low trade-in value quoted by a dealership and thought I would look at alternatives to buying outright." Robert, a finance manager for a pharmaceutical company, drives a lot on business and expects to change cars again in another three years.
