Record numbers of breakdowns expected!

The Environmental Transport Association has reported that it expects a record number of car breakdowns on January 5th, as many people look to cut motoring costs by doing without breakdown cover.With temperatures plummeting around the country and not expected to significantly lift for several days this cold snap is expected to exacerbate the problem of flat batteries which can usually afflict cars left unused over the Christmas and New Year period.According to a poll by the ETA conducted earlier in December up to 3 million drivers do without breakdown cover as a way to reduce motoring costs and it is these people that might find themselves stranded come January 5th.The ETA has offered the following advice to drivers:

• Try and avoid leaving your car unused for days as most breakdowns at this time of year are due to flat batteries than other problems.
• If you already have breakdown cover, look into whether it covers you at home as there is a good chance that is where a car battery will fail.
• Doing without breakdown cover can be false economy, there are several breakdown companies offering competitive member rates.
