Nissan enjoys sales success in October

Is there a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel for the automotive industry? If Nissan’s sales figures for October are anything to go by, there are signs that the recession may be coming to an end.During the month, Nissan in Europe reported sales of 45,225 units – that’s an increase of 10 per cent year on year. In Western Europe, total industry volume increased by 10 per cent, as opposed to Eastern Europe where TIV was down by 50 per cent compared to October 2008.The Japanese manufacturer reported a significant increase in market share at 2.8 per cent, compared to 2.4 per cent on the back of good performances from July-September. The vehicles leading the company’s charge include the Nissan Qashqai, the Nissan Pixo, the Nissan Micra and the Nissan Note.Bernard Loire, the vice president of sales operations for Nissan in Europe, believes there are signs of recovery in the West although there is still a long way to go in the East where the challenging market in Russia saw TIV fall by 54 per cent.“October results have been very positive for the fourth month in a row and we have maintained our consistent market share performance across Europe at 2.8%,” he said.“Although the Western European markets show signs of stabilising, there are no noticeable signs of recovery in the East. ”
