New Porsche 911 Turbo S: The ultimate 911?
Written By Richard Lawton Published On: Feb 08 2010Set for its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March the Porsche 911 Turbo S, just might be the ultimate 911. In response to customer demand the German manufacturer has built upon the 911 Turbo to create a car with a huge 530 hp, and a peak torque of 700Nm, which means that it will hit 196mph, and does 0-62mph in a pant-wetting 3.3 seconds.
The six-cylinder ‘boxer’ engine is boosted by not one but two turbochargers and it’s mated to Porsche’s seven-speed “Doppelkupplungsgetriebe” (or PDK, for short) double-clutch gearbox – with steering wheel mounted paddle shifters. The car is also pretty efficient – certainly for a supercar – with it capable of returning 24.8mpg on the combined cycle – which is identical to the regular 911 Turbo car.
Further underlining the specification of this the first 911 Turbo S in five years, the level of standard equipment is impressive, which includes Dynamic Cornering Lights, 19-inch RS Spyder design wheels with centre lock nut, adaptive sports seats, cruise control, a CD/DVD changer and exclusive two-tone leather upholstery in Black/Creme or Black/Titanium Blue.
Fitted to every Turbo S is a Porsche Vehicle Tracking System (VTS), a sophisticated vehicle security package approved to Thatcham Category 5 standard.
