Kia Soul gets a refresh and power boost
The Kia Soul is to get a host of enhancements including a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine option, while all models will benefit from a minor facelift. The new range will be on display at the Paris Motor Show, but won’t be available until the closing months of the year .

The most significant change comes from the addition of the 201bhp petrol engine that’s already fitted to the Cee’d and Pro Cee’d GT models. This means the Soul will reach 62mph from rest in an admirable 7.5 seconds, while only producing an equally impressive 156g/km of C02.
This fastest model uses a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox as standard and also gives the driver the option of Normal, Eco and Sport modes.
Elsewhere in the range, new bumpers and a grille give the Soul a sharper look from all angles, while the front fog lights have also been changed. The sporty 1.6-litre engined models are marked out by beefier bumpers, while twin chrome exhaust pipes, 18in alloy wheels and red detailing also feature.
Stepping inside, customers can now choose between a 5, 7 or 8in infotainment display, all of which feature touchscreen tech. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto both feature, while the passenger seat is now electrically adjustable and a USB port and parking camera now come as standard. Leather seats and sport orange trim feature on the 1.6-litre versions too.
Carens gets tweaks too
If you’re after something a little larger, the Kia Carens also gets a fresh look with new bumpers and the same “tiger” grille featured on the funky Soul. Inside there’s a new choice of trim and, just like the Soul, the infotainment system gets Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on all models, that now feature an updated sound system too.
A new Eco Pack is available for the 1.7-litre diesel engine too, that adds stop-start tech, special low resistance tyres and gearbox tweaks to ensure economy and emissions are kept to a minimum.
We don’t know exactly when we’ll see the latest Carens on showroom floors, but it should be available around the same time as the new Soul. List and lease prices for both models will be announced closer to their launch.
