A bourgeoning sub-category known as the ‘sports crossover’ sits in this sector along side the traditional people carriers, whether seven seaters or simply spacious five seaters. Also, perhaps confusingly, they are known as MPVs.
This year saw Citroen rule the people carrier section, continuing a tradition of practical and affordable MPVs and people carriers. Providing room for the crew came the seven seat Citroen Berlingo Multispace and smaller offering, the Nemo Multispace. Add this to the hugely popular Picasso range, and you see that Citroen had a fantastic year.

As one of the fastest growing sectors, Citroen was not alone in introducing new models. Renault introduced a new Kangoo and Grand Scenic, Toyota brought in a new Verso and quirky Urban Cruiser, Nissan introduced a seven seat Qashqai, while Kia brought out the funky Soul and Fiat-the chunky Qubo.

Famed for its clever Flex7 seating, this car is a true people carrier that conveniently also doubles up as a load lugger.
Likewise the Renault Scenic has held a position of prominence in this sector for a number of years adding to its award cabinet this year with the 2009 Golden Steering Wheel award for MPVs.
Winning a commended position for the Renault Scenic, is Windmill Leasing which offered the Scenic 1.6 VVTi Expression for just £213 per month based on a 3+35, 10,000 mpa business contract.
A commended position also goes to Clever Leasing for its deal on the Volkswagen Touran 1.9 TDi S for a fantastic price of £189 per month based on a 3+35, 10,000 mpa contract.
But the winning deal was Auto Advantage’s deal on the Vauxhall Zafira 1.9 CDTi Design offered for the stellar price of £165.49 per month based on a 3+35, 10,000 mpa contract.
