Best Car Leasing Deals of 2009: Supermini and City Car

Superminis or city cars have seen a rise in fortunes over the past couple of years, no more so than in 2009.

Engulfed in a perfect storm of rising fuel prices, increased tax incentives and the economic downturn, more and more consumers and businesses looked to the small and mighty. As a result the competition for the ContractHireAndLeasing.com award for the Best Car Leasing Deal in the Supermini category was tougher than ever this year.

As superminis proved popular under the by the introduction of the Scrappage Scheme, the carmakers were quick to showcase that great things really do come in small packages.

2009 saw the introduction of a fab new Polo; a reshaped Ford Ka; the greenest conventionally-fuelled car ever-the smart fortwo CDi and the funky Alfa Romeo MiTo.

Winner: Autofinders

Commended: Citroen Lease Direct

Commended: Butlers Vehicle Solutions

But for us, French carmaker Citroen dominated, with the cheeky little C1 winning in the Supermini category. Not only that but its big sister, the C2 was commended. As too was the best selling car of the year, the Ford Fiesta.

The Citroen C1, revised in 2009, is one of three identical cars; also known as the Toyota Aygo and Peugeot 107. Super-efficient on fuel, the Citroen C1 makes an irresistible little run-around, achieving up to 62.8mpg on the combined cycle and producing just 106g/km of CO2.

Equally, the more generously proportioned C2 is offers a frugal 65.7mpg on the combined cycle and CO2 emissions of just 113g/km.

Meanwhile, Ford registered 109,420 new Fiestas in the UK through the year up to the end of November, meaning that for the second year running, the Fiesta has been at the epicentre of car buyers’ hearts.

Accepting the award for Best Supermini/City Car Deal, is Autofinders who offered a Citroen C1 Splash for a measly £86 per month on a 3+23, 10,000 mpa business contract.

Citroen Lease Direct was commended for its deal on the Citroen C2 1.4 HDi VTR which was available for just £103 per month based on a 3+23, 10,000 mpa contract.

Equally Butlers Vehicle Solutions was commended for its deal on the Ford Fiesta ST 2.0 which was advertised on the website for just £110 per month based on a 3+23, 10,000 mpa  contract.

All prices quoted are based on business deals and are exclusive of VAT. They may not be indicative of current deals available on the website.

2010 will prove to have even better deals on ECO cars like the Citroen. I look forward to more of these in the U.S.
