The first Infiniti car to ever be sent to Euro NCAP has been awarded the top 5 star score the Nissan-owned marque has revealed.
It’s high performance luxury SUV/crossover the FX recorded an amazing 99% score in the safety assist element of the tests.
The car comes with a plethora of advanced safety equipment as standard, and Euro NCAP awarded the car extra points for its standard stability control system, seat-belt reminders for all seats and its driver-set speed limiter – all features present in every FX. Reversing camera, front and rear parking sensors, all-wheel drive, and adaptive front lighting system as standard across the range, while the range topping FX50S also comes complete with intelligent cruise control with brake assist, Around View Monitor, Rear Active Steer and tyre pressure monitoring.

Infiniti and parent company Nissan are creating an intelligent Safety Shield, which comprises of features to protect when involved in a crash but also with a number of technologies that prevent a crash happening in the first place.
One piece of technology which isn’t too far away from being released on Infiniti cars is the Side Collision Prevention system, which takes action should a driver accidentally leave its lane, if the driver fails to heed visual and audible warnings the car beings to slowly move the car back into its own lane automatically. Presumably the system will be intelligent enough to determine an overtaking move to a dosy driver!
Technology like this is in addition to a designed-in strength which, according to Euro NCAP, earns its five stars in the FX by effectively minimising the risk to occupants if an accident should occur. In the crash tests, Euro NCAP awarded the FX 86% for the safety of adult occupants and 77% for the safety of child occupants, both figures demonstrating the integrity of the FX’s construction. Infiniti engineers made the new FX body particularly rigid, 1.6 times more resistant to twisting and 3.4 times more resistant to bending than the previous-generation model.
Also contributing to the FX’s five-star result were its complement of front, side and head airbags, and ISOFIX child seat anchorage points in both outer rear seats.
