A new green car club has been launched with the help of CityGate Volkswagen. Buckinghamshire New University has taken delivery of two low emission Volkswagen Polos from the High Wycombe based car leasing company to start up its own car club, reports the Bucks Free Press.
The university launched the club for its students in an attempt to reduce carbon emissions and encourage car sharing. Teaming up with Commonwheels, a not for profit organisation which helps set up car clubs, Buckinghamshire New University now offers hire of the two Polos to staff and students following a short and free registration process. The cars are available to employees of the university between the hours of 8am and 6pm during the week and thereafter are available to students.
The scheme supported by Wycombe District Council, forms part of the university’s travel plans to encourage greater travel choice.
Car clubs are a form of flexible, short-term car leasing and are becoming increasingly across the country as motorists look to reduce the expense associated with buying and running a car of their own.
The Polos can deliver 70mpg and make an excellent choice for those looking to reduce their carbon footprint.
