Cars could soon have parental control settings to manage the driving habits of younger drivers.
Developed by Ford the system called MyKey, could dramatically control what teenagers can do in their parents’ cars, limiting the top speed, controlling the volume of speakers and issue a waning sound when seatbelts are not worn, the BBC reports.
It is predicted that the system will hit the market in the US by 2010 and could be a feature of the Ford Focus.
MyKey operates using ID chips already in use within car keys to prevent theft of a vehicle.
It’s making use of existing technology, and through the magic of software, we’re able to build features on top of the features we already have,” Jim Buczkowski, Ford’s director of electronic and electrical systems engineering told the BBC.
