Volkswagen has developed, in the Passat TSI EcoFuel, a 1.4 litre engine that runs on both petrol and compressed gas. Featuring low CO2 emissions and fantastic fuel economy, the EcoFuel is capable of almost 500 miles between its petrol and gas tanks.
The gas is stored in three tanks beneath the boot floor and can achieve almost fifty five miles to the gallon in normal driving.
Available in Europe towards the end of 2008, it is still unclear whether the EcoFuel will make it the UK due to the shortage of outlets selling compressed gas.
