Two-stage turbo
Having two turbos of different sizes in each engine makes the Twin Turbo diesel generous with power, but cuts down on fuel consumption. You get instant torque via the low-inertia small turbo when the exhaust power is light; strong, ‘top end’ power at higher revolutions, when the bigger turbo is engaged; and rapid response for safer overtaking at all speeds. Fifth gear takes you from 50-70 mph in just 6.3 seconds.
