Ford Ka+ promises extra room, fun drive and more

Though the Ka+ sits below the Fiesta in the Ford range, the city car is taller than its larger sibling, and that has allowed the city car to provide what it calls ‘class-leading’ headroom and ‘best-in-class’ legroom for rear passengers.
As well as improved passenger space, the new Ka+ will also benefit from a 270-litre boot. That’s just 20 litres smaller than the Fiesta’s luggage bay.
Up front, the Ka+ gets 21 separate stowage locations, including a MyFord Dock in the centre of the dashboard. This allows the occupants of the car to mount and charge devices like phones, tablets and iPods. There’s a hidden cubby, too, which is only accessible when the driver’s door is open and allows valuables to be kept out of sight.
Just one engine is available for the Ka+ – a 1.2-litre petrol – although it can be ordered with either 69 or 84bhp. Coming from the same stock as the 1.25-litre entry level engine in the Fiesta, the 1.2 has been engineered to manage 114g/km CO2 emissions and 56.5mpg fuel consumption no matter which power output you choose.
The equipment levels are just as simple as the engines, with only two to choose from. Basic ‘Studio’ cars are only offered with the 69bhp engine and get electric front windows and mirrors, Bluetooth and front fog lights, but the more expensive Zetec cars get the option of the more powerful powertrain, as well as 15in alloys, air conditioning and the Ford Sync communications and entertainment system.
Most customers are expected to choose the Zetec trim, and they will also be able to specify climate control, heated seats and the City Pack, which combines rear parking sensors, powered rear windows and power-fold door mirrors.
“Choosing a compact car should not mean having to compromise,” said Darren Palmer, small car vehicle line director, Ford of Europe. “Our all-new Ka+ lives up to the high standards set by our Ford Fiesta, B-MAX and EcoSport compact cars by delivering the style, space, advanced technology and refinement that European customers want.”
