Europcar starts a by-the-hour car hire service
Written By Claire Shoesmith Published On: Jan 26 2012Car rental operator Europcar has started hiring out cars and vans by the hour in a bid to promote the service as an alternative to public transport and attract new customers.
The French company is the first car hire firm in the UK to launch a ‘by-the-hour’ service, which is aimed at making car hire more convenient and cost-effective for drivers.
“Car hire can be an incredibly flexible alternative to public transport, especially with the recent fare rises that have been introduced,” said Ken McCall, managing director of Europcar in the UK.
“But we know that some motorists may be put off by having to commit to the cost of a full day's hire, which has always been the traditional way this service has been charged.”
“With our new hourly hire service we wanted to break the rules to give motorists more flexibility - and take away the barrier of cost. We are, therefore, offering busy travellers the ultimate in convenience, as well as taking the stress and expense out of owning a car in the city.”
Customers can rent a car for as little as £10 an hour and van for just £11, though there is a minimum hire period of two hours and a maximum of eight.
