Department of Transport targets emissions

A new advertising campaign, launched by the Department for Transport (DfT), should help drivers to slash their carbon dioxide (CO2) emission levels,The TV advert begins airing today and highlights that by driving just five miles less a week, drivers can help make a significant difference to overall CO2 emission levels.Known as the ACT ON CO2 campaign, it looks at the impact of car travel. If all UK drivers reduced their driving by five miles a week, they could collectively save 2.7million tonnes of CO2 every year.According to Transport Minister Sadiq Khan, the campaign asks people to think carefully about the journeys they routinely take.“In our daily lives we create over 40 per cent of the UK’s CO2 emissions, every action we can take to reduce this figure will make a difference,” he said. “Our research has shown that driving five miles less a week is something people feel they can manage - for example, by combining journeys or walking and cycling a bit more for short trips.”
