Classic Motor Show breaks records

How do you measure success? Well how about breaking box office records?This year’s Classic Motor Show welcomed around 48,000 visitors – an increase of around 8,000 compared to the previous year’s event. The show, which was held over three days, hosted 1,400 vehicles and also welcomed visitors from the neighbouring MPH and Top Gear Live events, for a joint total visitor number of 91,000.So successful was the event that dealers had to replace sold cars with new stock at the end of each day – more than £500,000 of vehicles were sold at the show. Fundraising motor club the Sporting Bears also enjoyed a record breaking weekend as it raised around £38,000 with its ten-mile Dream Rides in vehicles such as a 1936 Lagonda and an Audi R8.Managing director of show sponsor Footman James, Paul Matthews, was thrilled with the spectacle and the turnout.“This year’s show was a resounding success,” he said. “We received a record number of visitors to our stand, resulting in a 45 per cent increase in quote numbers compared to 2008.“Our motoring horror stories stand really drew in the crowds and our Price Right Challenge on the Live Stage was hugely popular with show-goers.
