BVRLA appoints first chief executive

New job title reflects the growing stature of the association and John Lewis’ profile within the automotive industryEight years after joining the association as its sixth director general, John Lewis has been made chief executive. John was invited to accept the newly-created title by the board of management, who wanted to recognise his outstanding contribution to the BVRLA executive and its members.The new position reflects the growing stature that John and the association have gained within the automotive sector in recent years. The board also believes the move will help support John’s efforts in lobbying on behalf of the vehicle rental and leasing industry in the UK and abroad.“I was very happy to accept this new job title, which is more recognisable in today’s business environment and reflects the modernisation process the BVRLA is going through.“However, my role remains the same. Our key challenge in 2009 is to try and support the rental and leasing industry through the difficult times that lie ahead.”Elsewhere John has been asked to join the boards of both the RoadSafe forum and the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership (LowCVP). He will also continue to chair the steering group of the Driving for Better Business programme, which promotes work-related road safety.
