BMW refreshes X6 in time for summer
Written By Richard Lawton Published On: Jan 27 2012BMW has announced a raft of improvements to its X6 as it gives the Sports Activity Coupe a refresh for 2012. As well as a range of design tweaks and performance improvements both in power and emissions stakes, there is also a new M50d performance model on the way.
As these first photographs confirm, the revised X6 features a new front end with wider chrome frame and new foglights placement, at the rear is a revised red light cluster, enhancing the lines of the car with two horizontal LED Bars. Three new colours have also been confirmed, Orion Silver, Midnight Blue, and Marrakesh Brown, and join seven existing finishes. Inside, motorists can choose two new upholstery trims Ivory White Exclusive Nappa Leather and Vermilion Red Nevada Leather.
The standard equipment includes 19-inch light alloy wheels. In the BMW X6 xDrive 50i these now feature a new double spoke design in bi-colour. There is also a new 20-inch version in Y-spoke, bi-colour design as an optional extra.

Meanwhile the BMW X6 M and BMW X5 M also receive styling tweaks with the addition of Aluminium brake callipers in blue and become the first BMW models to include Adaptive LED Headlights as standard. In addition, the BMW X6 M also gains a Powerdome bonnet enhancing its athletic stance.
Also confirmed by the carmaker is the introduction of a new performance range to the UK bridging the gap between M Sport and out-right ‘M’ models. Designed with the help of the M performance division these new models will feature chassis enhancements, unique styling, and additional power.

The first models in the new range are the BMW X5 M50d and the BMW X6 M50d. Powered by a new version of a straight-six 3.0-litre TwinPower Turbo diesel engine, both vehicles offer 381hp and 740Nm of torque.
This new engine provides meaty performance – with the X6 hitting 0-62mph in 5.3 seconds with the X5 just 0.1 seconds slower. Fuel economy and CO2 emissions for the X5 M50d are 37.7mpg and 199g/km, while for the X6 M50d they are 36.7mpg and 204g/km thanks to the use of EfficientDynamics technology.

The revised BMW X6 and new M50d performance models will be available from June.
