All new Jaguar XJ launched
Written By Richard Lawton Published On: Jul 10 2009 Jaguar's iconic XJ has been completely reinvented and is ready to take on all the competition in the luxury car segment. Featuring a dramatic panoramic glass roof across the range, a choice of four potent engines, and with all the craft and luxury you usually expect from the big cat, the Jaguar XJ was unveiled, by confirmed car enthusiast Jay Leno, to the world's media on Thursday 9th July at the Saatchi Gallery in London.
Taking obvious styling cues from the rightly lauded XF, the new XJ features a sweeping coupé-like roofline, mesh grille, and dramatic rear cluster lights.From launch the Jaguar XJ is available with the following engines:
- 3.0 litre V6 Diesel
- 5.0 litre V8 naturally aspirated Petrol
- 5.0 litre V8 (470ps) supercharged Petrol
- 5.0 litre V8 (510ps) supercharged Petrol
The Indian-owned British manufacturer has ensured that performance across the range is strong, with all models capable of hitting the electronically limited top speed of 155mph; while the 3.0 litre diesel takes 6.4 seconds to go from 0-62mph, the range topping 5.0 litre 510ps petrol version takes only 4.9 seconds to hit 62mph.All models come with JaguarDrive controls and an automatic six-speed gearbox, with shift paddles located behind the steering wheel.The bodyshell is primarily aluminium, enhanced with magnesium and composite alloys providing the car with a lightweight, super stiff body which all aids the ride and handling of the car.“The new XJ is a thoroughly modern interpretation of the quintessential Jaguar. Its visual impact stems from the elongated teardrop shape of the car’s side windows, a powerful stance and wide track.
